The CTC Source Protection Committee has been established to guide the development of three Source Protection Plans, one for each Source Protection Area within the CTC Region: Credit Valley, Toronto & Region and Central Lake Ontario. Committee members were selected for their sector expertise following a public nomination period. The development of Source Protection Plans involves municipalities, farmers, businesses, industry, residents and others. The committee's role is to guide this collaborative process in a way that will identify the sources of drinking water, the threats to water quality and water supplies, and propose actions that can be taken to protect municipal drinking water supplies. The committee will oversee and provide input for the preparation of three major documents:Terms of ReferenceThis is the "work plan" of the process, outlining who is responsible for carrying out the work needed to develop Source Protection Plans. The Terms of Reference will include a plan to consult with potentially affected property owners, to involve the public and to resolve disputes. Ontario Regulation 287/07 offers guidance for the development of Terms of References across Ontario Assessment ReportThe Assessment Report will incorporate scientific research to identify drinking water sources within the CTC region as well as potential threats to both water quality and water quantity with each watershed. Source Protection PlansThe Source Protection Plans for each watershed set out policies on how to reduce, eliminate or prevent significant threats to drinking water sources. The plans will outline who is responsible for taking action, timelines and how progress is to be measured. Most importantly, it will propose a range of tools that can be used to accomplish these goals. The CTC Source Protection Committee regularly holds meetings which are open to the public.
