Project Overview
Water quality statistical status and trend analysis tools are used to evaluate source water quality conditions and determine if a water quality Issue may be present. These statistical tools can also be used to understand what may be contributing to an increasing trend for a particular water quality parameter. They help improve our understanding of the implementation of Source Protection Plan policies and their intended ability to protect the quality of source water.
In response to concerns raised by the CTC Source Protection Committee around water quality Issues at specific municipal production wells, the CTC Water Quality Analysis Project was initiated. The project includes three phases.
Phase I
A review and update to the statistical status and trend analysis tools used to evaluate specific water quality parameters at municipal production wells. A technical report was compiled to accomplish this task and is available here.
Phase II
Update the drinking water Issue identification method: here
Phase III
In collaboration with the Oak Ridges Moraine Groundwater Program (ORMGP), develop an automated platform for users to analyze municipal well water quality data using preferred statistical analysis methods. Through this platform specific water quality parameters can be evaluated using statistical status, trends, and projection analysis to monitor changes over time.

The Oak Ridges Moraine Groundwater Program reflects the intent of fifteen government agencies (municipalities and conservation authorities) to jointly manage, synthesize and disseminate water resources data, analysis, knowledge, geologic interpretations, and numerical models over a 30,000 km² area situated in south-central Ontario.
